Password Settings
Previous  Top  Next

PDF documents can be password protected by their author. You will not be able to extract the text from these PDFs without providing the correct Owner/User passwords. Either one or both of these passwords may be required. Use the Password Settings window to determine how TEXTfromPDF handles password-protected documents.

The Password Settings window is available from the Security menu.

TEXTfromPDF offers you two ways to deal with password-protected documents. It can prompt you for a password when a password-protected document is encountered. Or it can not prompt you per document but rather can use the same passwords for every documents that it encounters.

If all of the PDF documents that you are going to convert use the same passwords, you should select the 'Use same passwords for all PDFs that require them' option and then enter in the appropriate Owner and User passwords. During conversion, when a password-protected PDF is encountered by TEXTfromPDF, the passwords you provide on this window will be used.

If the PDF documents will require different passwords, you should select the 'Prompt for passwords when a PDF requires' option. When this option is chosen, the following window will appear whenever a password-protected PDF document is encountered during conversion:

Note that PDFs that are not password protected will not be impacted by any of the password settings. The password settings will simply be ignored.
